On Thursday 25 February, the national consultative meeting „Sustainability of the ESS in Serbia“ was held at the hotel Izvor, in Arandjelovac, in person and online. The European Social Survey (ESS) is the most methodologically and theoretically comprehensive international comparative research, conducted under the auspices of the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Since 2002, it has been conducted every two years and it meets the highest methodological standards in research in the field of social sciences. Serbia joined the research consortium in 2018 (IX round) for the first time. The importance of research is recognized at the level of Serbia’s EU integration, considering that the ESS was mentioned twice (in 2019 and 2020) in the European Commission’s reports on Serbia’s progress towards the EU as a positive example of the integration of science and the European research area. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development has included the ESS in the strategy of scientific development as one of the priorities in the social sciences. The tenth cycle of ESS is being implemented in the period from 2020 to 2021 (the beginning has been postponed for a year due to the crisis caused by the COVID-19).
In person meeting was organized with the respect of all measures related to COVID-19 pandemic in Serbia.
